For the first time in a while, both Gleason Bros. Racing cars were at the track ready to race. After a long week of rebuilding the #81 and putting a new engine into the #4, the team was eager to hit the track. Let's get right into it:
#4 Mini- Still nursing a sore arm from the Late Model wreck a few weeks ago, Brent decided to take his time in getting back into the Mini because it had been almost 2 months since his last start. Immediately, the car was hooked up and running well. Brent was able to stay with the faster cars in practice. Starting 13th in the feature, the car was still running well. Brent decided to race very conservatively to try and get back into "race mode". By lap 5, the exhaust had broken and was killing power. Brent rode out the rest of the race underpowered but came home in 13th. It was a good first race back and there was a lot of vital information gathered as to getting the car faster.
#81 Sportsman- It was a full week of late nights and thrashing to get the car back together after last weeks hard wreck. When the car arrived at the track it was brought over to the scales and was spot on. The car was down on power, so carburetor and timing adjustments made the car wake up a bit. The team battled overheating issues all day as well. In the feature, Jesse started 4th, but was battling a very loose race car. He took the lead early, but his handling issues began to take hold. He faded back to 5th by race end, but it was still a much better race than last week.

From the #81 Jesse Gleason:
After a solid third-place finish the week before, I was poised to improve that the 26th with a good starting spot on the outside pole. My optimism quickly turned into deep concern entering the first turn. A combination of dirt in the lower groove and too much speed carried the pole sitter and myself into the first-turn wall on the opening lap.
In the eight years of racing that car (yes eight), that was the hardest impact I ever had with it. The damage, surprisingly, was all bodywork and suspension parts. The clip and horns are still straight. Luckily we both are OK. Pictures Below.
Also, Brent will be back this week with a brand new engine.
