Requiem for a Season 11/14/2009
So my rookie season certainly was interesting. I competed in all but one race, had 2 or 3 DNF's, one top 10, and I didn't wreck the car. What's funny, although I was happy about getting that top ten, I already got one in 2003 when I raced X-Cars at Waterford. My first ever time in a race car I started last in 28th and ended up 10th. So, although I was not able to beat my best career finish, I do have the comfort of knowing I started in the back pretty much all year and usually finished better than my starting position each time. My car is in pieces in my garage as I write this. There's so much I found on it that I wanted to change and I've been busy doing that for the past few weeks. When you start taking stuff apart you keep finding things that need attention. In my case, my car isn't a Mustang, but a Rustang. I've been cutting out and replacing rotted parts for a majority of my updates. Overall, things have been going pretty well and I'm pleased with the results. I'll have to post pictures as they become available. I'm going to do something fun, I'm going to post my predictions for the 2009 Banquet awards. It's a little ridiculous, I know, but I felt like having a little fun at the expense of my fellow competitors. So, here we go (if I can remember the awards): Rookie of the Year: Probably will go to Trevor Michalski. Trevor came from not even knowing how to drive a stick shift to getting the best finish by a rookie all year. I think he had a best finish of 8th. I will say he had the best equipment of all the rookies, but I was tracking him down slowly! Most Improved: The point standings didn't reflect the on track results, but without a doubt the Most Improved driver was Mike G. in the 36 mini. How many heats did he win? Six or something? How many races did he have a chance at winning? He finished 2nd two or three times. I think that's good enough. Sportsman: Not to sound pretentious, but I talk to a lot of people and they all tell me I'm a shoe in for this award because I let Brad drive my car and I'm halfway friendly or something. But I think there's plenty of people out there who deserve it as well. Fellow rookie JT Suprenaut is always a help and good to chat with. Steve Romjue is a clean racer and when he got into the wreck at the end of the year with Keith Ballou, he offered him parts to help rebuild his car. There's other people well worthy, so we'll see who ends up with it. I don't remember if they do any other awards or not, so I'll just stop there. Until next time, when I have something valid to update you on. Brent 1 Comment | AuthorBrent Gleason, Driver of Thompson Mini Stock #4, keeps a log of his career ArchivesOctober 2011 Categories |
